17 of the 23 tiny (abt. 2 3/4 inch) angels I made for family & friends for Christmas. They each have a bell inside. This is a pattern I've had a very long time but I don't know the source.

Thirteen Bells pattern

It's Christmas in July!! I plan to close out my 2nd, actually unpublished book, Thirteen Bell Patterns, subtitled, "Old patterns, New patterns, Some you have, Some you don't, Some you just want all in one book" Above are some samples of the patterns.
I am selling the book along with 4 glass bells for $18.00 including shipping anywhere in the USA. Most of the patterns are charted but all are fully discribed. Most are fairly easy but a few are more challenging. The first one above is in the more challenging catagory but the other 2 are easy. Tatting Display at the Art Museum

Here's my chance to catch up on all my motif's at once. I was invited to display my tatting at our local Mistlin Art Gallery. I did up some new pieces and entered some old ones.

The newest are the 2 necklaces, the hair bun cover, the guest towel done in blues, the jabot (ladies tie) from a 1896 pattern (just above the fan). The tablecloth is the oldest. It has 40 eight inch medallions and took me 2 years to complete but it won a blue at the CA State Fair.

Munoz snowflake

Here is some of the many snowflakes I have done. I started with Denise Munoz's pattern and added Swarovski crystals, changed the last row as she suggests and then did some triple picots as you can see in the picture on the left. I've had so much fun with the colors and figuring out a new last row. A big thanks to Denise for her cute little book on rose snowflakes. I did change the count on the inside rows, I use direct method chains (no flip, downward facing) so the chains stay really neat. My fav method of making smooth, tight chains.

Secret Angel Exchange

Wow, did my exchange partner ever go all out. One of the pumpkins in the wheel barrow got bent over in the scanner, but I have two pumpkins in there. Then there's all the "pumpkins" still growing in the patch. The beads look pink but they are ORANGE. It can hang up. The back has 2 pockets and is made from strips of ribbon. A huge THANK YOU to my Secret Angel. You are awesome.

Iris' Bell

I have Iris Niebach's new Fantasy 3 book. I worked the edging for a fingertip towel for a friend. I loved the edging. I made some changes in both design and count and created the pink bell. Then went loco and created the blue & white bell with 140 beads. Too, too much. Now to make a 3rd bell, with some of the changes and not nearly so much "glitz."

Not Tatting

We have formed the Jer-Lisa Service Group with members of my church. We are making stuffed, dressed dolls, fleece Teddy bears with hearts on the tummy and I'm making knitted Teddy bears. These will ride along with the fire/police dept. to give to children in stressful situations. Here are some of my bears. Some don't have the white "twinkle" in their eye nor the bow around their necks, but they have been fun. I've now completed 10 bears/dogs/mice. I've also been knitting hats for newborns. In between, I'm still tatting.

With 2 shuttles, and about a size 40-50 thread (I actually used #12 Perle cotton which is about a size 45), complete 12 pattern repeats using smaller thread, 10 using larger size thread. From the center section, it will be slightly smaller when the top and bottom rows are completed. I did use 2 stitches between picots in outside chains.

Next row & top: Join thread to a center p of chain from prev. row to the left of the center of the clover, Ch3-3+ (to center p of next chain)

Ch 5-2-2-5 Shuttle 2 R 5-5-5. Sh 1, continue chain 5-2-2-5+ (to center p of next chain)

Ch3-3+ (to next center p) Ch 5-2-2-5 Sh 2 R5+ (join to last p of prev. ring) 5-5-5. Continue chain working around, joining last ring to 1st ring. (12 rings if using 12 pattern repeats, 10 rings if using 10 pattern repeats)

Bottom: With 1 shuttle R1-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-1. (Twice as many picots as you have pattern repeats) Slip into 1st p and leave about 24” of thread for lacing. Lace into center p of each chain from prev. row.

New ornament

I had just completed another bookmark designed by Brigette Nettles when I went to Michael's and found this onion shaped ornament. It's really small. I switched to size 45 thread (#12 Perle cotton), worked the bookmark then added a top and bottom. The bottom is really level, it just photograped sideways. I'd love to post the pattern but since the main part is Brigette's design, I can't.

Amazingly, knowing my love of beads, there isn't one bead in sight. I could change that. I left a picot along the bottom edge of the center part to drape some beads if I find it necessary. What do you think?

I finished Eliz Davis's Celtic bookmark. My trellis looks brown but it's actually dark green with light green and pink. It was really fun. Thank you Eliz for the pattern!!

Linda Davies Heart with an attitude

Linda Davies posted this delightful heart on her page. I went to our local bead store and when I saw this angel bead, I knew just what to do with it. I added lots of beads for pizzaz. The picture isn't the greatest but you can get it bigger by clicking on it. Thank you Linda for a delightful design.

The Bonnie Belle Ornament

Here is my newest bell pattern called The Bonnie Belle. It is based on a jewelry pattern by a Russian designer. I don't have her name so I can't get her permission to post the pattern.

I especially like the Swarovski crystal centers with the seed beads all around the circle. It takes about 250 beads, 2 shuttles with split rings and a 3rd thread encapsulation to carry the crystals and the bead between motifs. It's still a fairly easy pattern. There isn't a pattern with the jewelry pictures, that I had to figure out.

Easter Frames

After seeing Riet's tatted frames hanging on her little tree, I decided to make these Easter Egg shaped and hang them on my Easter tree. I used Caron Wildflowers in Springtime for the first frame. The 2nd is size 20 with the chains done in the same Caron. Here's my pattern:

First tail and half of bow.

Tie a knot between shuttle & ball or 2 shuttles in one color or 2. Chain 18 RW (Reverse work) R27^ (small picot) 5. RW Chain 6 RW
Rings 1-29 All rings are the same,(Ring #1) R5+ (LPPR) 3-2-2-3-5. RW Ch 5
#2. Ring RW then Ch 5 RW #3 Ring, RW Ch 5 RW #4 Ring, Ch 5 #5. Ring, Ch 5 #6. Ring, Ch 5 #7. Ring, Ch 6 #8. Ring, Ch 6 #9 Ring, Ch 6 #10. Ring, Ch 6 #11. Ring, Ch 6 #12. Ring, Ch 5 #13. Ring, Ch 5 #14. Ring, Ch 4 #15. Ring, Ch 4 Now reverse the order until you have 29 rings, end with ch 6 Other half of bow, R5+ (to Ring #29) 27. Join to base of first ring, Tail: Ch 18. Tie a knot at the very edge of the last stitch and cut.

Super quick and easy and a great way to display my great-grandchildren. I have 4 and a 5th on the way.

Shrinky Kink Shuttles

Here's my "learning Equipment" or the Shrinky Dink (Registered
trade mark) shuttles. They are about 1 1/2" long. The cord is a rat-tail type cord. Very heavy. They grab the knot and (hopefully) start tatting. As soon as the student is mastering the "flip" I let them choose a real shuttle with #5-#10 thread. There are 2 layers with the thread glued into the center.

Jane & I bookmarking

I noticed that Jane was making bookmarks for Ring of Tatters. I had some people at church that had done especially kind things for me so went into a flurry of making these mindless flowers for bookmarks. I have a new laminator I just had to try out. It worked great. This is size 40 thread and I used my computer to do the wording on medium card stock. I did about 40 of them. Does this count as one of my 25 motifs?

Window Hanger

I have lots of red glass in my living room so decided to do this window hanger. This is another pattern is from Tatting Lace by Teiko Fujito. It's done in Altin Basak thread. I'll get these 25 projects done yet!

Broach

After looking at the pattern a while, I decided to do this broach, or is it brooch. Hmmm, let's call it a pin. I went to my local bead store and asked for tiny pearls and bought these @ $3. a strand using 2 strands. I think it's a lovely pearl color. The thread is Altin Basak. It's from the Japanese book Tatting Lace but I couldn't find the name of the author.

It tats up in a spiral and forms 3 layers plus the center.

Never Ending Project

This is my never ending project. I started it almost two years ago and I figure it will take me 2 more years to complete it. It's unusual in that it is done in rows, not rounds. There are 4 rows to the pattern. I start with row 2, do row 3 & 4 then work row 1, joining into the rest of the rows. It will eventually be 42" X 27" when completed. It is an altar cloth.

My next entry in the Snowflake division. This one is by Claire (lostinthread). I used Swarovski crystals in it. Someone asked if this was my first snowflake. I've been tattting for 20 years and teaching for 18 years and designing since 1998. I've made a few snowflakes and certainly a few ornaments.

Olympic Tatting

I've begun some snowflakes to do during the Olympics. This is the first. The pattern is by Jan Stawasz. It isn't in his book, I just figured out the pattern from his picture. It has tiny almost pink beads.

I'm off to work on Snowflake #2 then on to some UFO's and maybe even the bookmark bobsled event after that.

Recognizing the designer

The lovely ornament below was a gift in an ornament exchange and made by Jeanette Hasseman. But I didn't recognize the terrific designer. The pattern is by TanTatts. The ornament has been a great addition to my collection.
It is so important to recognize a designer with your pictures. I was very remiss in not doing this previously. My appologies to TanTatt and thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Use for Doileys

Just returning from Spokane, it's interesting that there should be a discussion on doileys. This angel skirt was a doily found at an estate sale, I cut out the center, added a few rows to make it the right length, tatted up wings, added a halo and you have a tree top angel. This is a quick gift idea. Great way to use a doilie (please note, I spelled it 3 ways on purpose.)

Here's the angel I made for my SIL a few years ago. I liked the hair. So many angel's look like they have their hair in curlers or are sausage rolls so I liked this one. Then Georgia had a contest to fill in the apron. I'll include that too with the pattern.

Martha's Heart?

I bought a copy of Martha Ess' new book of hearts, "Tat's Amore" and decided to do this heart. I was spending lots of time with my BIL at the hosp. so decided to tat it there. But I forgot the book. I thought I could remember the pattern but missed row 2 in white entirely and increased the # of picots & stitches along the outside edge. I decided it was pretty anyway and am really looking forward to trying some of Martha's other hearts. Hopefully I'll have a book with me and not make any mistakes

13 Tatted Bells

I decided to take all 13 of my tatted bells to Palmettos on the wooden tree my BIL made and my SIL painted for me. This is one of the old bells, "For Whom The Bell Tolls" from the 1st book, "Tatted Ornaments" with some updating. I did it in 2 colors and added Swarovski crystals. It really sparkles

Here is a doily by Jean Younkin that I got from Maus' pages a long while back. I used Altin Basak threads in pink, green and ecru. It's really small, only 6 3/4 by 4 1/2.

Since we were discussing what we should do with tatting we don't display, I thought I'd share one from my stash.

I don't know if this is really a "motif" but I rec'd an order for a Bella Royale bell in pink & white so finished that up and am sending off both the picture and the graph. The little red circles are beads of course. This is really a fun bell pattern. The 2 color split rings add lots of life to the pattern

Wanting to design a 6 point snowflake using Bina Madden’s Celtic Picot, it worked out to be only 5 points. Original design.
Some abbrev. C.P. = Celtic Picot, ^ = very small picot, LPPR = join to Last Picot of Prev. Ring, LPPCh = join to last picot of prev. chain, [brackets] = work this ring with other shuttle, * = designates patter repeat, MR = Mock Ring. Complete chain and join into base of 1st chain forming a ring.

Hello Tatting buddies. I've decided to join the 25 motif challenge. I decided to start with patterns I've always wanted to do. This one is from an old PinkPig page done by Maus (Etha Schuete) and done without cutting anywhere along the line by doing the shoelace trick and split rings. Hers was done in a lovely variegated red/lavender. My version took 144 beads. I'll get this lovely Christmas tree posted...If I figure out how
